Choral Leadership for Young Women!

Looking forward to welcoming girls in Grades 8 – 12 for our third annual Choral Leadership for Young Women workshop on January 31st.  What do we do that day, you ask?  Well, we start out as a large group of singers, including our Elektra members.  We will get our voices warmed up under the leadership of our guest clinician, Dr. Giselle Wyers, hear a piece sung by Elektra, and then learn about seven traits of successful people (hint: they include “zest” and “determination”!)  We’ll learn a beautiful piece together and then break for lunch.  The students will be in one place while the teachers are in a (quieter!) place getting to know each other and talking about – what else? – choral music-making.  After lunch, we get into smaller groups and move through four fun “stations” where we explore more of those seven traits through singing together.  Thanks to Denise O’ Brien and Kelly Proznick for sharing their expertise. At the end of the day, we open our doors at 3:30 to friends and family who are curious about what we’ve been up to.  We’ll present the various activities and songs of the day, and any choirs that are there together can perform a piece of their own if they like.  It all wraps up around 4:30, by which time we will know more about singing well, about being a successful leader in all aspects of our lives, and we will have spent the time with other great girls who love to sing.
