Ding, Dong, Sing-a-long

Conductor Notes:

A really successful and fun extended medley written for our 2009 Chez Nous concert. Scored for women’s choir (SSAA), children’s/youth choir (unison), piano, guitar, acoustic bass, bell choir (4 players), audience singalong and some audience members playing handbells as well! In 2015, we managed without the guitar part. This piece is something of a “happening” and I played that up – rehearsing the audience ahead of singing the piece and having a lot of fun with it all. Tim’s instructions include things like “Sing like Bing Crosby” and “Like you are telling a secret”.

Here are the audience words for your concert program:

First audience segment (after “We’re gliding along with a song”)

Our cheeks are nice and rosy and comfy cozy are we.
We’re snuggled up together like two birds of a feather would be.
Let’s take that road before us and sing a chorus or two.
Come on, it’s lovely weather for a sleigh ride together with you.

Second audience segment (after “…and on ev’ry street corner you hear:”)

Silver bells, silver bells. It’s Christmas time in the city.
Ring-a-ling, hear them ring. Soon it will be Christmas day.

Strings of street lights, even stop lights blink a bright red and green,
as the shoppers rush home with their treasures.
Hear the snow crunch, see the kids bunch, this is Santa’s big scene,
and above all this bustle you hear:

Silver bells, silver bells. It’s Christmas time in the city.
Ring-a-ling, hear them ring. Soon it will be Christmas day.
