Sanctus-Benedictus (from Mass no. 6)

Conductor Notes:

A stunning work for SSAA and piano in which the Sanctus and closing Hosanna build the four choir voices in a tight canon of 16th-note runs, with the soprano 1 ultimately soaring above. The piano shimmers. The contrasting Benedictus is slower and more intimate, with an opening piano solo and counterpoint reminiscent of Bach. The whole mass is a wonderful experience to perform and hear.
