A highlight of Elektra’s year is our annual Choral Leadership Workshop, in which we bring choirs together for one evening to sing and learn. The focus? How can we as individual singers in a choir take a leadership role within our treble-voice ensembles?
There is space for up to six guest choirs plus Elektra, of which most are usually high school and college ensembles and the rest adult choirs from the community. This event always fills up, so we encourage you to apply as soon as you can, as it is first come, first served. Choirs that have participated two years in a row are asked to sit out one year before reapplying. Choirs up to college/university age participate free. Adult community choirs pay a nominal $100. All choirs receive a set of scores of the massed choir selection.
Our guests in 2020 were: the British Columbia Girls Choir, Fiona Blackburn, director; Burnaby Central Women’s Choir, Carrie Taylor, director; Burnaby North, Kyumin Lee, director, Killarney Secondary Women’s Choir, Lisa Reimer, director; Opus One Women’s Ensemble, Brenda Wilson, director; Oriana (UBC), Will Ireton and Caroni Young, directors.
The public is warmly welcome to observe our work and the performances by Elektra and these fine choirs as each ensemble shares their music and learns more about being a leader in her own choir.
Conductors: please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to be added to the list for email notifications about future editions of this annual program, or if you have any questions.
Thank you for your interest in singing and learning with Elektra Women’s Choir!
