Lake of Stars

Elektra welcomes the Sitka String Quartet of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (Cassandra Bequary and Karen Gerbrecht, violin, Emilie Grimes, viola, Olivia Blander, cello) in a program of uplifting works in celebration of life and nature. Joining us also are flautist Heather Beaty and bassist Yefeng Yin.

The concert features three world premieres:

  • Snewíyalh tl’a Staḵw (Teachings of the Water) by T. Patrick Carrabré with Squamish text by Rebecca Duncan. Special guest: Candice Halls-Howcroft
  • Two Shakespeare Songs by Stephen Smith
  • Lake of Stars by Santiago Veros, poem by Charles Anthony Silvestri

Rounding out the program are Vesi Väsyy Lumen Alle by Harri Wessman, Night by Ramona Luengen in a new version with string quartet, Shore by Fredrik Sjölin, The Dromer and Kisti du Kom arranged by the Danish String Quartet, Marie-Claire Saindon’s stunning Blinded by a Leafy Crown, and the evocative Starry Night by Aleksandra Vrebalov.

Please note: Elektra Women’s Choir will continue to require proof of COVID vaccination from all audience members and performers at the May 2022 concerts. Audience members will be required to be masked throughout the performance. Elektra will provide a mask to anyone needing one. The performers will either be masked or rapid-tested on the day of the performances, a decision to be made a few days ahead of the concerts.
