Elektra places first in category at National Choral Competitions!

Elektra members were keenly listening to CBC Radio’s Choral Concert program on the morning of Sunday, June 25th, intent on learning who would place first in Equal Voice Women’s Choir category of Choral Canada’s National Competition for Canadian Amateur Choirs, and were thrilled to learn that we had taken the honour! A shout out to our fellow women’s choirs in the category – we were up against stiff competition – sure signs of a thriving national choral community. For those unfamiliar with the adjudication process, winners are chosen on an anonymous basis, with jurors not knowing to whom they are listening before making their selections. Congratulations are also in order to our fellow BC choir, the Vancouver Youth Choir under the direction of Carrie Tennant, who also placed first in two categories – strong representation from the West Coast of Canada!

For those interested in listening to Elektra’s submitted pieces for the competition visit Elektra’s CBC Music Page  – the last four tracks under ‘All Tracks’ at the bottom of the page are the pieces submitted for this year’s competition.
