Elektra is celebrating 40 seasons of extraordinary music with a 2026/27 season that looks both back and ahead.
The Ruby 40th Anniversary Season brings together music that reflects Elektra’s history, its distinctive sound, and the artistic possibilities ahead under Artistic Director Cassie Luftspring.
The season opens November 28/29 with Chez Nous, featuring the Allegra String Quartet in a warm, wide-ranging program that brings together music by Stephen Smith, Sarah Quartel, and Levente Gyöngyösi, alongside works by Srul Irving Glick, Shireen Abu-Khader, Marie-Claire Saindon, and more.
On March 20/21, Radiant Dawn explores themes of light, awakening, and renewal, with a new commission by Suba Sankaran at its heart. The concert returns to Elektra’s beginnings with Gustav Holst’s Choral Hymns from the Rig Veda, first performed by the choir forty years ago, alongside music by Shruti Rajasekar, Reena Esmail, Katerina Gimon, Joni Mitchell, Dolly Parton, and others. Harpist Vivien Chen joins Elektra for the program.
The anniversary season culminates May 15/16 with Ruby: The 40th Anniversary Concert, with performances in Vancouver and Surrey. At the heart of the program is a new commission by Alex Eddington, created for Elektra’s 40th anniversary. The concert will close in celebratory style as alumni join the current ensemble, singing together under the direction of both Cassie Luftspring and founding Artistic Director Morna Edmundson.
The celebrations extend beyond the concert stage with The Ruby Gala on February 27 at the Terminal City Club. This special 40th anniversary evening will bring together singers, alumni, supporters, and friends of Elektra for a joyful celebration of four decades of music and community.
