Brilliant Harmony: Tapestry International 2009

7:30 PM February 26th, 2009 at Ryerson United Church

This was the opening concert in our 3-concert Tapestry International festival. From the concert program: “Tapestry – a rich combination of colours and designs woven together in a harmonious whole” is the perfect description of what all of us are about to hear and enjoy over these next few days. Elektra has a long history of bringing together women’s choirs to sing and learn from each other. We are excited this year to be raising the bar, making this a truly international event. We welcome Brilliant Harmony from Japan with their dynamic conductor, Ko Matsushita, Western Washington University, University Choir Women under the inspiring direction of Timothy Fitzpatrick, the award-winning Balkan Babes from Victoria, BC, and of course our own Elektra Women’s Choir as hosts. Along with these guest choirs we are pleased to include for this special event 11 high-school aged singers, participants in our young singer mentorship program called Mira.” In this first concert, we gave Brilliant Harmony the spotlight. Elektra opened with three pieces, then we performed “The Lake Isle of Innisfree” together, and at the end of the evening we all performed “Here’s to Song”.
