Upcoming Concerts and Events

Elektra’s 34th season of fine music-making is about to begin, and what an unusual time we find ourselves in – our choir and you, our beloved audience members!  We are already missing seeing you at live concerts – on hold due to the pandemic for the foreseeable future.
It’s a time for Elektra to consider how to deliver our mandate in new and creative ways, a moment that calls on us to “inspire and lead in the choral art form through excellence in performance and the creation, exploration, and celebration of women’s repertoire” in ways that don’t involve hosting an audience or even meeting all in one room as a whole, 45-voice choir.
We have many interesting projects on the go – collaborations for online projects with other choirs in Canada and the US, videos in the works, and weekly ideas-sharing conversations hosted by Elektra for women’s choir conductors from far and wide. And we recently launched our 17th CD, Fire Flowers, fortunately recorded before March.
If you’re wondering how choirs can rehearse during COVID, it’s a great question!  At the moment, we are rehearsing on Zoom – such that Stephen Smith and I are in a room together and all the singers are at home on their devices, singing along and learning new music. The fact that the singers all have to be on “mute” due to internet lag times is a stumbling block shared by choirs worldwide, and makes for an interesting experience. But we are finding we can learn the music, keep our sense of community alive, keep our voices in shape, and look forward with great anticipation to the time that we can sing for you again in person.
Until then, watch for details on our projects, and be well and safe.

“Trail-blazing a new path for women’s choirs, matched with high artistic standards, has been a part of the Elektra formula since the start…”
