Program Notes:
Nystedt (1915-2015), one of Norway’s most revered composers, has a particularly strong, deep sensitivity for choral music. In the poem Mary’s Song by American writer Luci Shaw, we have a glimpse into the Virgin Mary’s thoughts as she holds and marvels in the newborn Christ Child.
Conductor Notes:
SSAA a cappella with soprano solo. A harmonically challenging but extremely effective Norwegian piece – a classic where exquisite poetry meets artful composition. The poem is by Seattle-based Luci Shaw.
