Conductor Notes:
The “Angelus bell” was traditionally rung throughout Europe “as the shades of night were falling”, between the service of Compline and the curfew. It signaled the faithful to say the “Ave Maria” in honour of the Annunciation. The bell was pealed three times with intervals between (a series of stokes 3-3-3 then 9 strokes). Later, it became common practice to ring the Angelus bell three times daily: at morning, noon and evening.
