Still, Still, Still

Composition Details

Recorded by Elektra

Program Notes:

Sometimes perfection comes in the simplest form, as is the case with this charming 2008 arrangement for flute, piano, and 3-part treble choir of Austria’s famous carol.

Conductor Notes:

If I hadn’t been looking specifically for pieces with flute to feature one of our guest performers in 2010, I might have overlooked this simple and highly effective arrangement, sung in English. Children’s and adult choirs alike will find this expressive SSA arrangement with piano and flute very satisfying to sing. In 2019, since we had a violinist in the concert, I replaced the flute with violin.

Text:

Still, still, still,
One can hear the falling snow.
For all is hushed,
The world is sleeping,
Holy Star its vigil keeping.
Still, still, still,
One can hear the falling snow.

Sleep, sleep, sleep,
‘Tis the eve of our Saviour’s birth.
The night is peaceful all around you,
Close your eyes,
Let sleep surround you.
Sleep, sleep, sleep,
‘Tis the eve of our Saviour’s birth.

Dream, dream, dream,
Of the joyous day to come.
While guardian angels without number,
Watch you as you sweetly slumber.
Dream, dream, dream,
Of the joyous day to come.
