Sign Up Now for Elektra’s 2016 High School Outreach Programs

High School Choral Teachers – Here’s how to involve your students in Elektra’s upcoming programs:
1) Mira Mentorship Program – Mira is an auditioned program focused on excellence.  For nearly a decade, we’ve given 12 accomplished high school singers the chance to rehearse and perform with Elektra in our spring concert.  From singing alongside the Elektra singers, working with Morna or international guest conductors, professional instrumentalists, premiering compositions, we’re proud to have provided unique and challenging opportunities to over 100 girls so far.  This year, the Mira singers join us and the Vancouver Men’s Chorus for Your One and Only Life: the Choral Music of Stephen Smith. We’ve adapted the rehearsal schedule to require parents to do less driving in rush hour.  All details are on the downloadable Mira 2016 Schedule and Handbook. Rehearsals run between February 6 and the concerts on March 5 and 6.  Please help your most motivated students meet the December 10 online application deadline.

2) Choral Leadership Workshop – We’ve adopted a new format for this motivational workshop and set the date for Monday evening January 25, 2016. Rather than a Saturday for groups and individual singers, we’ll be welcoming whole choirs to come and perform existing repertoire for each other and Elektra. Learning a piece together and building specific vocal and choral skills are part of the more compact schedule. We’re delighted that the UBC Women’s Choir will be with us as our special guests. We hope the move to a weeknight will make it easier for you and your singers to consider. Space is limited so please email our General Manager (manager@elektra.ca) at your earliest convenience if you would like to be one of our participating choirs. There is no charge to participate in Elektra’s Choral Leadership Workshop and registration is first come, first served.
