Tapestry: Gala Concert
Tapestry International Festival of Women's Choirs, 2012

Ryerson United Church

Every three years, Elektra hosts a four-day gathering of women’s choirs in Vancouver. We collaborate as a massed choir on music from around the world, hear and learn from each other, celebrate the distinct voices of our ensembles, and share the experience in public concerts.

Our second Tapestry International took place in May 2012 with guest ensembles the Grand Rapids Women’s Chorus (Grand Rapids, MI; Lori Tennenhouse, conductor), Mirinesse Women’s Choir (Seattle, WA; Beth Ann Bonnecroy and Rebecca Rottsolk, co-conductors), and Voci Women’s Vocal Ensemble (San Francisco, CA; Jude Navari, conductor).

The repertoire below is only Elektra’s solo set in the Gala Concert and the five massed choir selections. For details on what the other choirs programmed in the Choral Threads concert and Gala Concert, please download the program pdf.

In addition to the choirs and accompaniment of piano and organ, our guests were the Vancouver-based quintet A Touch of Brass, who performed the world premiere of “Songs of Envious Time” by Bramwell Tovey.
